can someone please explain to me why this site does not allow take backs even in an unrated game?

It is a rule in chess, if you could take move back you would never loose a game

Cant speak for this site but I am being annoyed when players ask for a take back of a move all the time on sites that allow it.

The site DOES allow for "takebacks" as a teaching tool, in unrated games, in which the challenge specifies "takebacks."

When you issue a challenge, in the lower right look for a box that says "Rated".  The default is "Yes."  However the other two options are "No" and "Takeback."

In a game of chess, previous choices are conditioning later ones, and certain story takes form. I can't imagine it with takebacks, it ruins is essence. That's why is often taken as a metaphor for life. I wish I could do a lot of takebacks in my life (or probably not, at the end you can't prevent all possibilities), but in a game? Just finish the story and start another one.

Since mouse slips can not happen in a real game, there should be a way to correct them.

Last time I posted in one of these threads, we (the people agreeing with allowing take backs) were told we're taking it to seriously. But it is the opposite! People against take backs in online play are so freaking up tight you couldn't pull a toothpick out of their butt with a tractor.

Zsofia_D

Are you talking about live chess or correspondence?

Yes, people having a different opinon than yours clearly must be people of bad character.

Having an opinion different from yours clearly means you get to insult them as well. It's only logical, isnt it ? After all, they dare thinking different than YOU!

If you find any sarcasm in any of the above you're allowed to keep it.

CJ_P

Are you dense? A difference in opinion has absolutely nothingto do with this conversation. If two people want to allow take backs in their games and your opinion isvthey shouldn't be allowed, your opinion is of zero importance. Furthermore, if you actually read what I had written, youwould have notice I was talking about those people in the other thread.

I may have not been talking about you, but you jumped in and proved beyond the shadow of a doubt that you are, indeed, a tight ass! Thanks for clearing that up.

I was trying to show you how insulting others will not help you in any discussion, guess you chose not to understand that point.

So now I guess I'll figure out how to report you to a mod instead, I get kind of tired seeing you sling insults again, have a nice day

Asking to take back a move is equal to resigning. These people have my contempt.

So, is it just intended or is there a chance we will see a take back button in the future?

Tactical_Knightmare

There is already a option for Takeback in a unrated Tackback game, at which point a button does appear....

LOL omg thanks. Okay. :(

I can't see it. Can anyone show me?

PigsOn7th

At least chess variants

pawnwhacker

Beginners like "take backs".

I've taught quite a few friends and relatives how to play chess. When doing so, I taught them the proper way to play chess. You touch it, you move it. You let it go, it stays there. Of course, the moves must be "legal", as well.

Do I care if some people playing a friendly game break the rules of chess? No. None of my business. Unless, of course, they play me.

If I teach someone, I would like them to know what they are doing instead of making an ass of themselves when they play others so that when asked "Who taught you how to play?!" I won't mind if my name is mentioned.

En passant, rules for castling, getting the white square in the right-hand corner, putting the Q on it's same colored square, not confusing where the N & B goes, knowing how to choose who get white or black, knowing when and how to resign...this is all stuff that should be learned sooner or later.

I vote for sooner. Smile
