haha i would have played. my exam is in october/nov. but if a tourney starts AFTER june, it might last till my exams.

Use the vacation feature, and if your ISP goes down, log on from somewhere other than home long enough to set the vacation. Then you won't have this problem. As others have said, if you timed out a lot in the past, then you're likely to in the future, and it's good to exclude you from tournaments until you get your act together.

 The tourney you were hoping to enter has 737 people in it and is 5 -> 1. This means it will take at least 5 rounds to complete (5^4 = 625 < 737). The first official tournament of this rating range still has games going on from round 1, which started 2.5 months ago. I would not be surprised at all if the tournament you wanted to enter lasts until November.

The comments that particularly amuse me go something like "blah, blah, blah.... and I forgot to play any moves for a couple of days...whine, whine whine". It is precisely because you "forgot" to play any moves for a couple of days that you are temporarily unwelcome in some quarters. Brace up and live with the consequences of your "absentmindedness".

....or buy membership, thereby making it nearly impossible for you to timeout! Tongue out

Loomis, you are right, i realised. should have realised before cos I'm still playing the 1st official tournament round one, and its the last game...oh well. i remember reading a story about looking on the bright side of things.

once, a king had a best friend. they went hunting together, i think. then, the best friend accidentally shot off one of the king's finger. the king was angry and put his buddy in prison.

"but this is a good thing!" said the friend.

"i've lost my finger, how can it be a good thing?"

years later, the king went out on another hunting trip. he got caught by some cannibals. they wanted to eat him for dinner, but didnt because they said, "you lost your finger! that means you are not whole! we cannot eat you."

the king remembered his friend. because his finger was lost, his life was saved. he released the friend from prison.

"I'm sorry," the king said.

"no, that was a good thing!" the friend replied.

"i locked you in prison for many years. how can that be good?"

"if i were not in prison, i would have been with you!"

the end.

get it? so my timeout not letting em take part in the tounrey is sort of a good thing, in the end, if it clashes with my exams.(:

Loomis
ISP = Internet Service Provider.

hey thanks

I've complained about this before. For me it takes about a month to finish 10 games (I counted... so only 1.5 months to go!), which is a really long time. It might be better if timeouts in the last 2-3 months were counted. My timeouts were all when I was very new to the site, and I'm getting "punished" for it months and months later. (Since then, I've timed out on a mere 1 game).

haha sb3700 makes a lot of sense too, speaks for the grievances of this entire topic. I know its real sad, but like I said, we can't do anything but complain about it and play games to make up for it (so, like what, maybe half or a full year till you redeem yourself, hm?)

I got my timeouts when I was relatively new as well. (;
