Not cheating, but?????

Playing by the rules is usually considered sportsmanlike.  However, sometimes the rules are manipulated in an unsportsmanlike manner.

I have an opponent that is using the "vacation" rules in what I consider to be unsportsmanlike.  He has king and two pawns versus my king and 5 pawns.  My opponent offered me a draw and I politely declined noting the advantage of 3 linked passedn pawns.  Now, he uses almost every hour of his 3 day per move limit and then goes on vacation for a few days?????  He has been doing this for a month.

I looked at his 71 completed games and noted that 11 of them were won via his opponent exceeding the time limit.

I don't mind an opponent hanging in there to see if I can mate with a rook, but that is not what he is doing.  He is making this game as long as possible, hoping that some circumstance in my life might cause me to exceed my time limit????

Is this part of a tournament or just a "Lets play" game? If it's just a game I'd probably resign and be sure to never play him again. If it's part of a tournament then perhaps report him to the TD. Nothing wrong with taking the full three days, but the vacation bit is LOW.

It's up to staff to determine it but this does sound like vacation abuse and could be reported:

Thank you both for your comments.  This is a tournament game and it is holding up the whole tournament.

I am sure that occasionally one plays a computer, but ego is fueled by accomplishment.  How could one possibly get any satisfaction from finishing well in a tournament with their personal computer?

Because their definition of "accomplishment" is different.

Perhaps he's hoping that you'll be kidnapped by aliens?

IT COULD HAPPEN!

Once in a tournament I played an illegal move and he let me play it

I have repoted vacation abuse to staff and it has worked. Also you have plenty of time to make conditional moves on this clown and cut down on your waiting time when you are off and Bozo makes his move.

Your opponent is being a jerk?  This is unprecedented!

Jerk is a true but not unprecedented.

In all fairness, there are 20 games left in the first round of this tournament with 180 completed.  This individual is involved in 4 of the remaining 20 games.

Was just that when I glanced at the tournament (Which is still on round 1)

seems there is these twenty or so games still in progress.

Your game that are complaining about has 38 moves made and is not apparently the slowest of these?

Does your opponent truly deserve all the flak he is receiving here?? Additionally the vacation use may not be deliberate because of chess.com auto-vacation feature. Once that has activated (And is inconsistent with world time zones!) players often choose to use the 24hrs that has been applied.
