Now that Nakamura has won the WCC ...

Well, first there is Caruana--a much better challenger. And even So is ahead of Naka in the ratings now. Not impossible we will see him in the next WCC.

A Nakamura vs. So WCC would certainly be interesting. It would be the first time since Kasparov-Kramink that both players vying for the championship come from the same country.

But you don't think that Carlsen will win the next Candidates' and become the challenger? Despite his lackluster performance over the past weeks, he's still #1 on the ratings list.

The trolling is strong in this one.

Congratulations Nakamura for a brilliant scintillating win with a King sac Kh6+!!!

Unfortunately for Naka, this victory means he will no longer be able to accuse his opponents in online bullet of being the world champion in disguise, as he has done in the past.

There could be a problem with Nakamura defending his title, because as the soon-to-be president of the United States he will be leading the mission to colonise Mars.  But by then AOL will have solved it's internet speed so he could play remotely against his challenger.   I'm not convinced that Carlsen will be able to win the candidates- Hou Yifan is a very promising player and could be a threat.

He should still be able to play classical from there. Bullet however... But if his challanger is Carlsen, he'll still be able to play "play Magnus App" for the short timer tie breaker.

Maybe Clinton will invite Naka over for a game... after all Clinton lives in NYC where the WCC took place.

Of course, President Nakamura could decree that the future WCC has the blitz and bullet games first, since these are the most exciting part of the world championship on recent evidence.  And then, since these are played to give a decisive result only if there is a tie, we can assume that, knowing the outcome, the winner of the tiebreak will play only to draw subsequently in the classical games and succeed in that, so we can then dispense with the classical games altogether- after all, we already know the result of the tiebreak.

Problem solved!   And more importantly, by playing the world championship over one day, this would not impact too much on the President's busy schedule of running Mars and ensuring that The Enterprise continues to spread bullet chess throughout the known universe.

Thank heavens Jill Stein was prepared to step down after saying "I won't ask for a recount" after the outcome of the recent Sinquefield Florida Allegator Wrestling Election.

If Nakamura were a Spartan, the movie would be called "1" and he'd still be alive.

With no flesh wounds on his back.

Something doesn't feel right about Naka's WCC victory.

It's possible that a rift in the space-time continuum has occurred which has altered the timeline that we are in.

She won't be living in NYC for long though. She's moving into the White House in January.

Those are some interesting predictions! I'd like to hear more about your thoughts on the Mars mission, and particularly its effect on chess. Do you think it will have a significant impact on the talent pool for top level chess, or will the chess players that we find on Mars be significantly weaker than elite players on Earth? Also, do you think Martians and humans should be allowed to compete in the same competitions? And what about separate titles for Martians and humans - yes or no?

Krolp

Perhaps, given the 4 to 24 minute light delay between Mars and Earth, and the tremendous cost of transporting individuals from Mars to Earth or Earth to Mars, it would be best to resurrect the old notion of "separate but equal". A Martian Chess Champion and an Earthian Chess Champion.

Nakamura once checkmated Carlsen with just a knight and a king.... against Carlsen's entire white army.

What a load of bullocks!  What planet is macer75 on?  Or what drugs did he do over the weekend?  Personally, I vote macer75 for president of the USA. I think he would do a better job than President-Elect Clinton.

Thank you for your kind words! I have no intention of running for POTUS now or in the future, but if I did get the job, I think I wouldn't do too poorly. My first major policies would be:

1. Build a mall on the Mexican border.

2. Give away everything in the mall for free.

3. Wipe all of the servers clean... so that people will eat at the restaurants in the mall.
