Obstacle Rule ( With possible tiebreaking function )

When a match is deadlocked after many rounds, blitz games are usually called for as tiebreakers. As an alternative, I suggest a new tie-breaking format:

Obstacle Rule ( with possible tie-breaking function )

After the 50th move , a dice is thrown to determine which of the following type of piece (R,N,Q,B,P) can’t be moved during each turn.

Equipment: A special dice with each of the faces lettered R,N,Q,B,P and K

Rules:

When K is thrown, the two sides are free to move whichever piece they please.

Outcomes other than getting K

For example,

l          When N is thrown, neither side can move a Knight during that move with the following exceptions:

Exception 1: The king is in check and it cannot move to another sqaure (that square being  already attacked ), and the knight in question is the only piece that can be recruited to defend against that check.

Then the knight move is allowed.

Exception 2: When the knight is en prise, and no other piece can be moved to protect it, then the knight can be moved.

The same rule applies to other pieces .

Why would you want luck to decide? Shouldnt skill be better?

I think this rule allows some luck to play a part in settling long games that seem never-ending. Maybe this rule should be experimented in casual games first to see if there are loopholes or other glitches. As you can see, with the exceptions, skill still applies to a very large extent.

No, chess is, and should remain a perfect information game. Leave chance out of it.
