Official Chess Anthem?

Sort:
Cbreez

Is there an official song for chess? or a chess organization with an official anthem?  Not like music from the band Chess, or the musical Chess but a sort of official chess song.  Kind of a random question.

oinquarki

Why?

GatheredDust

Actually, it'd be pretty funny to have a theme song Smile

DrSpudnik

Perhaps something with the lyrics:

"Ha Ha! You dropped another pawn!"

oinquarki

Why?!YellCry

Cbreez

whadya mean why?!

GatheredDust

Why do you want to know? Tongue out

Cbreez

o mah lord... u peepl

Optimistically, it could be "Another One Bites the Dust" or maybe "Killer Queen."

DrSpudnik

A Google search turns up a FIDE anthem...I wonder how godawful & Soviet-style it sounds.

TheGrobe

Clearly it's One Night in Bangkok.

GatheredDust

I think this would be a fun anthem... not that it has anything to do with chess...

I'm technologically challenged, so 5 bucks says the above embedding doesn't work :S

EDIT: Of course it doesn't...

I think this is chess related but I don't know if it should be a theme song lol!

Bobby Fischer beat Spassky in Iceland '72,

I know a girl who's better looking but who thinks like Bobby Fischer too,

When Bobby Fischer was a kid they knew he was a prodigy,

I know a girl who's somewhat older but no less of an authority.

I wish I had the smarts to understand her charts,

If I don't concentrate she'll have me in checkmate.

In Tampa Bay and Lafayette they all knew Bobby Fischer's name,

I know a girl who made her mark in smaller cities but her fame's the same,

When Bobby Fischer made his comeback in the 90's he was worse for wear,

I know a girl who made a comeback but her mind was altogether there.

She said, "I drink chocolate milk from a cow I built,

Doot n'doot doot doot. Doot'n doot doot doot."

They're all saying that you'll never play again,

They're all saying that you're finished, that you're washed up as a friend,

All my life I have 'feather-dustered' but it's not how it's going to end,

Oh no.

Spies in hideouts send their secret messages,

There's a thief caught in the headlights of a car beneath a bridge,

There's no lights on in the house except the light in the fridge,

Oh yeah.

Reykjavik, no one ever says Reykjavik in a song,

Reykjavik, no one ever says Reykjavik in a song.

One Night In Bangkok. I agree.

Ok, you said "not from the musical "Chess"", but hey.

One Knight In Bangkok :p

Although I'm not actually sure that's my favourite song in "Chess". But it's certainly a very good candidate.

Of course, in the category of things outside of "Chess", "Killer Queen" may be a half-decent candidate, alongside other silly ones like "Play the game" (appropriately, also by Queen), and "Dry your eyes, mate" by... whoever it was, if you want to go down the real "pun is mightier than the sword" line. Of course, we all know really that the pin is mightier than the sword, but the fork is mightier than the pin.

But as for "Chess", there are so many good songs in there that it's hard to choose.

It HAS to be this. Cool

Ha! The Dance of the Knights. Yes, appropriate, and very cool music!

Okay folks.  With all the talent on this website; let's try & come up with an original anthem.

I'll take a stab a stanza.

On squares of 64

Our pawns march on, ever to the fore

Though our Kings abide on opposite sides

The riddle is in the middle

That leads to shame or fame

Oh Game of games!

Okay, you can kick me to the curb now.  I encourage any poets or artists here to add their input. But "Game of games" sounds like a nice title.

how about... hmmm... Man, that's a good question. I don't know about any... oh, wait a minute! how about crazy pawn chain. okay, fail. umm, yeah Knight in Bangkok is good, but how about the King of the Rings? or Queen Wars? hey, you could use any piece with _____ Wars.
