OFFICIAL COUNTDOWN to the Carlsen-Anand World Championship here!

*disclaimer: the disappointment you are feeling right now from finding neither a countdown nor a world championship match will not be compensated, at all*

You came to this post because you were hoping for a countdown to the Anand-Carlsen WCC. However, there isn't one. Not here, but more surprisingly, not anywhere on the chess.com website. Perhaps the greatest match of recent chess history since Kasparov-Karpov is going to take place, and there is nada advertising this great event. As a crazed chess fanatic, this disappoints me. Carlsen presents the greatest opportunity to promote chess since Bobby Fischer, and Chess.com is not taking advantage of this. Maybe at least some icon on the chess.com welcome page with a WCC countdown? Ok thank you. *end of rant*

Hmmm... I agree with you, linlaoda. Chess.com should devote more resources to informing people about the upcoming match.

P.S. lol at *end of ___* When I saw it I thought, "No no no - you have to do it like this: [rant]  [/rant]".

Too much programming...

[EDIT] Shucks now that double post bug is happening to me too

This is an unmitigated travesty

I can't find an actual starting time for the event.

I want Carlsen to win, but I think Anand will out prep Carlsen.

That's because FIDE is spending its money on funding Ilyumzhinov's campaign

Wink

@ Jadarite: I do want Carlsen to be as popular as Justin Bieber! But Anand as well! I think a career as great as his, his world championship defense match should be promoted much more too, in addition to promoting Carlsen's rapid but sure rise to greatness.

Also... I think it would be great if it pisses off Kramnik. Because a WCC match Carlsen vs. Kramnik would be, obviously, the greatest match ever to take place on this Earth!!!!

Carlsen represents everything Kramnik could achieve, if Kramnik still cared anymore. If he wasn't content to be just "one of" the best players in the world.

I hope Carlsen wins and then next cycle Kramnik vs Carlsen with Kramnik's win :)

Interesting concept.

Without any basis as far as I can tell.

You know you are excited for something when, before it starts, you are worried that it will end. 12 games are too little for my  chess appetite. There should atleast be 18 games.

Totally agree with OP. There is no build up for this match till now. I would like if chess.com can have a preview show. They have resources for this.

Can't wait for Nov 6th.

How about free 1 year memberships for who guess the winner right?

Good plan, and everybody gets 2 guesses!

Hoping for a mod to see this... then the match will finally get some attention

Spiritbro77

There's only going to be 12 games? That can't be right. What if they draw 10 games?
