A bit of a hot take, but I might as well give it a go.
Castling is *NOT* The ultimate king safety maneuver. Yes, it is very important to your position, but it should not be treated as if it solves all king safety issues.
Short castling, for example, is very weak to batteries (Queen and Bishop or Queen and Rook) The king is cramped between 3 pawns and the rook, and, if not defended, can be checkmated by smothers mate with a battery. Back-rank mate, while easily spotted, is common in bullet and shorter blitz games because your focusing on attack and tactics or just time, and you don't notice that you don't have a luft.
Long castling is also weak to batteries, though less so e file openings (French, Van't, King's pawn, etc) are played.
If you castle and have no active tactics/attacks, or prefer playing defensively, I highly recommend you work on defending your king to prevent battery and back rank mates.
But what do I know im 450
