One BIG reason Chess.com > unnamed PaySite

It's true you don't absolutely HAVE to use this interface but it's one of their main defaults and is used in many of their instructional videos.  The shading of black and white pieces is SO damn close it's irritating isn't it ?    good grief ... What were they thinking ? 

That interface is just plain ugly. It looks like it came straight from the 90's.

Yeah chess.com is more modern, and has more players.

But the interfaces for [unnamed site] have a million options for customizing the pieces, board, gameplay, etc. Much more than chess.com has actually. So this is an odd gripe.

I don't really care.

Back when I played somewhere else the first 15 minutes of the first day was spent just going through all my client's options until I was satisfied.

still though, those are beeeeeyoooootiful pieces! and i can see the colours really well. god bless my nightsight.

i would take a wild guess that other unnamed paysite doesnt do as many ip bannings.

this just in ... apparently they came up with a new Windows client in 2017 , (still in beta ?) which probably does look better.  it may have taken them ten years to figure this out but better late than never

now if only i could switch chess fonts on those old Dan Heisman videos I'd be happy

have no idea what you are talking about ?  I understand IP banning but can't guess what you mean ?
