If you don't take live chess seriously, you won't have an accurate live chess rating.
I could go to an OTB tournament and experiment with openings and refuse to take it seriously, then my OTB rating would be much lower than my real strength.

one does not have to be concerned with personal hygiene when playing chess of any form online, thats a factor to consider also...just thinking ouloud

there are some pretty stinky dudes at the club where i play. i think chess players often refuse hygiene--online or OTB.
When my turn-based rating was 2400+ I thought ratings here were high, but now my turn-based rating (2235) is within 20 points of both my USCF and my FIDE rating.
In live chess, it's been very challenging for me to get too high, because disconnections affect both players equally.
In Live chess ,there are games which are 1 minute or 5 minute long.these games are prone to blunders and if a player is mostly playing these games he is most probably going to have low rating vis-a-vis a player who plays longer games.
Jitesh, that makes no sense. If I play 1 minute or 5 minute games and my opponents are prone to blunders, shouldn't my rating be higher instead of lower?
Of course, that makes no sense either, both players play with the same time restrictions!
live chess is rad cuz you can play while you're in the bathroom. that would never work with OTB chess. NEVER.
the guy that invented* the toilet was called tom crapper. no lie. john crapper would have been better.
he didn't really invent the toilet, as the myth suggests, but he helped make it popular.

Also in live chess it can be difficult to maintain a rating past 1800 because of a shallow competition pool at that level.

This means nothing, there is a player who has a 4000 rating in one minute chess.
Really fast time controls is a different story.
In live chess games with at least 15 minutes per person time control, my online rating is about 225 points higher than my USCF rating. (However this is from another site). Here I usually play Live chess games anywhere from 3-10 minutes. My rating is only about 75-125 or so points higher than my USCF rating.
Maybe, but I don't know of anyone who plays chess to lose.
Edit: this is directed to ilikeflags
no i'm not saying playing to lose, but playing with less conviction to winning and with more of an intention to pass time OR try out new openings, and work on specific aspects of the game. this isn't how everyone uses chess.com but i know players who this applies to.
Sure, that's why I stress that an accurate live rating and an accurate OTB rating will be similar.
i don't know that i agree. i don't take live seriously at all. some people probably do though. i play live blitz games to pass time and mess around. honestly, often i do not play with any concern for winning or losing. i'm not playing to lose, but i'm not playing with much concern if i actually do lose.
