OPENING THEORY VS. TALENT

Is it just my impression or talent has been replaced by theory? I mean if you know your opening repertuar very well and that's not hard to archieve you will from memory end with imbalanced but equal chances 4 or 3 pieces end game. There is simply no place left for strong imagination and calculation. So this days with good memory and eng game knowledge(2 fat books on endings are found in any GM home) is not for no reason.

So it seems to me without talent you can become a GM with THIS set-up. (not fischer random).

Reaaaaally. How do you explain my draws against Rybka 3 with White in 20 0 games on FULL STRENGHT? And my fide is just 2080. If I just start exhanging pieces and avoid complication I can draw Rybka many times.

Avatar of TheBlackCobra

Simply because I avoid complications, won't go far in rating by that but will be solid as a rock

Avatar of TheBlackCobra

So, you see what I'm saying, if you know your shit VERY WELL you can draw every game and talent or not talent won't help a shit

Avatar of TheBlackCobra

No, man, what you are tlaking about is deviation. Deviation without GRAND MASTER computer preparation leads to a simple position - draw is the result.

I do not believe that every opening leads to a 3-4 piece endgame..
Nor do I believe that you can draw rybka easily. Unless you create a locked position every game. And that will not get you a GM title.

You are right but so am I, if Kasparov, Rybka or anyone plays Caro-Kann vs. me I can manage draw give me 2 hours. The same with Sicilian, if I play c3 variation I exchange all the shit down = drawish ending.

Good night.

Avatar of RosarioVampire

Really? Play an unrated game, sicilian c3 variation..

Avatar of RosarioVampire

Or I use Rybka, and play the Caro. Show me how you draw it..given 2 hours.

What a load of BS.

this must be a wind up...?

Avatar of marvellosity

Pretty retarded, yep.

Also isn't theory just an accumulation of talent from the worlds best? And is it not constantly changing?
Avatar of Conflagration_Planet

Nobody on here even had the nerve to play an un rated game against me using my silly little kids toy chess computer, and you talk like that.

I can understand your point and I kinda agree with you. I also play with computers and can only ahieve best result the way you do, which is to simplify and avoid complication. But here is what you may not know yet:

1) In my computer, an engine set to it's full strength shown an elo of 3600+, when I installed in my friend's (old) computer it was 2400+

2) I can achieve 2100+ against an engine set to 2200 in 10/0 games. Here I play 3/0 games and my current rating is 1514. If I play 10/0 my prediction of my rating is 1800. Against an engine it is easy to avoid complication because the engine "doesn't" make mistake. While any mistake by human will usually lead to complication.

This is interesting because I dont believe you could draw any GM over 2700 many times with white. Ofcourse, they would NOT avoid complications.

Now, when you are 2700-2800, opening theory becomes extremely important because GM's know how to exploit advantages and these days they will do anything for an opening advantage for at least some chance to outplay an opponent that strong. But no 2080 is not close enough for it to be anywhere near the same as their situation.

I see your argumentative, jerk thread senses have let you down on this occasion! Wink

Simple equation::

(Theory + Talent)*HardWork/(ReadingForumRants) = Wins
