Openings against D4

Any suggestions for openings against D4 I’ve tried out the king s Indian, but I’ve been hesitant to delve deep into theory in a opening that doesn’t feel right for me. I’m good at memorizing with trail and error so complicated is fine. Although I find simple is better most of the time.

Kings Indian is too uncomfortable. Why not try grunefeld instead , or just the basic d5 and then queen's gambit declined or slav or something similar. There's also the Nimzo Indian which I recently started playing . I believe you should try out all of them and see which of them is the most comfortable to you.

Sounds good will look into them.

King’s Indian, Grünfeld, Nimzo-Indian, Benoni/Benko, Budapest Gambit and just d5 waiting to see what happens are some of the usual suspects. If he follows up with c4 you can go into a Slav or Queen’s Gambit, either accepting or declining.

Here is a list:
1-Nimzo Indian Defense(Best one, go for it if possible)
2-Queen's Indian Defense
3-King's Indian Defense
4-Grunfeld Defense
5-Slav/Semi-Slav Defense
6-Queen's Gambit Declined.
7-Bogo Indian Defense
8-Benoni Defense

You could try the modern:

It is overall pretty simple when you understand what the ideas are of the opening and where your pieces should move.
