It's just a normal move. A lot of new players learning the game seem to be unaware of it, so don't be surprised if they accuse you of cheating.
It's not cheating.

Alright! thanks for the heads up! :3
I think it's a good rule. Alot of endgames would lose their complexity if it didn't exist, and the fact that it can only be done the 1st move cancels out some of its advantage, so it's fair. The logic is that every pawn should have at least 1 chance to capture a neighboring pawn before it queens. Kings can't castle if they move through a square that they would bebin check in, so why can't pawns follow the same rule for 1 move?
It's a great rule, despite the accusations from newbies when I play them over the board. Once at my first scholastic otb tournament I had someone actually call the TD over when I played en passant on them lol they thought I was cheating. The TD set them straight.
I wasn't expecting you guys to actually comment on this!
Nice to know people are much more social on this website than I thought! :3
It's very much needed. Without en passant the pawns would be more likely to get too locked up. There would be way more draws.
In over 30 years of playing chess, I've only captured En Passant maybe 5 times. But the possibility of En Passant has often limited my
My understanding is that initially pawns could only ever move 1 square. The ability to move them 2 squares on their first move was introduced to speed things up. But, as a result, that ended up allowing a pawn to "jump through" the square controlled by an enemy pawn and avoid capture. So, en passant was introduced to close that loop hole. Just think of it as if the pawn initially moved 1 square, so you could capture it, but if you don't they move it the 2nd square, and the opportunity is gone.
I'd like to know what everyone's opinion on the "En-passant" move is. and your history of using en-passant, or someone using en-passant on you
