Opponent gets upset after I force a draw in a losing position

Backstory: I had miscalculated a trade, and ended up in a bad situation. I forced a draw by repetition.

Him: Really, loser? You're going to force a draw because you can't figure out how to win?

Me: Yep, why not? Desperado tactics.

Him: You're pathetic.

Me: I'd rather do that then lose points ya'know

Him: You're a real pro

It was actually your opponent who couldn't figure out how to win as Qd5? was a blunder allowing the perpetual. Re5 would have been easily winning. You were up a piece but then got too fancy with Ne7+ which was faulty. Keep it simple when up material, Ng7 instead would have been great.

Dude clearly doesn't know much about chess. good opportunistic draw. I have improve on trying to salvage draws like this

Lol, I was wondering if I was the wrong one here, seems my opponent has no idea what opportunistic draws are......

You know you are correct, yet you posted this. What was your main goal behind this?

Avatar of Lc0_1

I didn't know if i did the right thing; did I fight for a draw when I had winning chances? I couldn't tell. So I went for it,and now I am asking for advice.

You are 100% correct in your approach in achieving the draw. Your opponent was probably drunk.

Avatar of Strangemover

There were no winning chances for you, it was correct to force the draw.

Shame on him. You played honorably and followed the rules.  Very smart play to avoid a loss i'd say.

Avatar of Lc0_1

I probably should have thanked him for the complement..... Knowing how to force draws is difficult, that's actually the first time I've done it to avoid a loss.

Avatar of ABC_of_EVERYTHING

He was not trying to thank you. If he was trying to thank you why did he wrote loser in the first place.

If someone insults you for playing the best move, they shouldn't play chess.

Avatar of inaciolino

I was doing tactics like that today. Great job!!! There's nothing wrong with your play. Your opponent acted like a child, what a shame!!!

When the position is lost, play for a draw. When the position is drawn, play for a win. When the position is winning, play for a win obviously.

if you would be 100 times in this position and wouldn't go for the draw by repetition, you would lose at least 90 games or so. drawing here is the only right move to do and by drawing, you also annoy your opponent who thinks he/she is the best player in the world so why wouldn't you draw here? ^_^

I was being sarcastic.

I was tempted to not block out the name, but I figured it would be considerate (if you want to know, I don't care, it's in my game history) and if I am correct it is not allowed to be rude about your opponent and specify their name in a forum post.

What is the point of this post?

If you want to complain about him, then complain to the admins.

Yes ppl on here are rude and their sensitive little egos get hurt when the results dont go exactly how they wanted.

But whats to be done about that? Move on to the next game instead of making posts about nothing.

Block him/her

You are the second person to ask about the purpose of the OPs post (btw, they already explained that). Now that makes me curious what's the purpose of your post. Though the answer is predictable.
