OTB versus online chess

this site (and others like it) are utterly worthless when it comes to trying to prepare for tournaments.  system openings, incorrect random sacrifices, and pathetic time controls make it more of a liability than an asset when it comes to training. its like, I finally fought my way out of "horrible opens but I have tactics!" level... (aka <1600) only to find out that all I have done is enter into the "my openings are even worse, but hey, TACTICS!" world.

bye chess.com

You whined about this already. Are you really going to leave? And of course an online chess site won't prepare you for OTB, they're not the same thing.

If the openings are so bad why aren't you beating them and surpassing that level?

This site and others like it have improved my OTB play. It's simply a matter of how you approach online play and post game analysis.

Without a doubt, this site has improved my chess play (and that includes OTB); many thanks to the opponents and chess.com forums.
