OTB vs Online Chess
I am stronger at OTB.
Might give up slow play online...too easy for people to use analyser or computer which makes it pointless.
My blitz on here is weaker than OTB, but probably because I'm not as effective as moving the mouse as my opponent, whereas I am super fast at piece and clock control OTB.
ps. 1600 is not so strong, so you meet people who make silly blunders. This is English Chess Federation rating of 125, which I class as weak club player in UK, or put it another way, a player who would play in a Minor section of a tournament. Ratings can flucuate around this level.
Actually correspondence games are a good way to practice openings. I learned to play d4 as white by playing in Correspondence.
At least I know other people are stronger in OTB than they are in online chess. It's weird I think... I can remember back playing my friends in OTB just earlier today. I felt more in sink with the game while playing OTB with my friends earlier than I do when I play here online. I feel like I pay more attention in OTB.
Some players are "sticking" to the condition of his game type (OTB/Online).
It happened to me, in real live chess somehow I am stronger than online.
Another factor is....fear.
Yes, opposing real live players eye2eye sometimes makes some players fear of losing. Panic's controlling and..... blunders will soon happen.
That my opinion...
I've heard stories of people who in the past did not do so well in OTB tournaments dispite their online chess ratings. Is it really possible to be really good at just online chess and when it comes down to it you are not as good OTB?
Can the reverse be true? I only ask, because I've played some very strong opponents OTB (very strong considering that I would probably have a USCF rating of only 1200 and the very strong person would be about 1600 in this case) and I actually beat a guy who was 1600 USCF in a blitz game very easily. I know blitz isn't the same as long game, but if you look at my rating I am way better at long game than I am at blitz. Not only that... This guy that I beat, the so called rated 1600 USCF, I'm sure, is not as good as my friend, and his chess.com rating is like 1600.
I also play very good games against two opponents who are very good blitz players. It's like I make better moves when I play them, than playing in lets say blitz online, or even Correspondence. I lost 4 games just now in correspondence to ridicuolous blunders, and now am losing another game because I just blundered a pawn against an impressive opponent.
I think I make less blunders OTB than I do on online chess. Is that even possible? I mean, has anyone heard of this before? I'm the opposite?
On the flip side of the coin, I make more blunders when I play long games OTB, than I do in blitz!! Weird huh?
Is it just a matter of not having as much practice with online games? Or long games for that matter? I don't play very many long games at all... I've been trying to play a few each day but I never am good with keeping up with doing things daily. I end up not doing them for a year after just two days of doing it :D. I know that has got to change!! Anyway what do you guys make of this?
