Some have a mental checklist of things to go over before deciding on a move. What’s on your checklist?

During opponent's turn: make general positional considerations about pawn structure, possible endgames, trades to strive for or to avoid, good squares for own and his pieces...

During own turn:

  1. Record the move on the score sheet.
  2. What are the consequences of the last move: threats? downsides? intentions?
  3. What are candidate moves?
  4. Calculate 3 candidate moves.
  5. Evaluate.
  6. Decide.
  7. Check the intended move is no blunder.
  8. Play the move.
  9. Press the clock.
  10. Record the move on the score sheet.
