Over the board performance versus online

Has anyone else noticed that you can move a piece and press the clock far faster with a real set and clock than you can complete a move on-line.  So when you are in time-trouble on chess.com your time disappears much more quickly than in an OTB game, and you often end up losing an easily won or drawn position on time?

Since last month, everytime I play a standard live game here on C.c, I set up my physical board and pieces next to my smartphone (I don't have PC) and I make the moves on the phone then on the physical board and look at the physical board for thinking and make a move. I'm doing this to get more and more in terms with otb playing and I have a fide tourney coming next month.note( I don't shuffle about the pieces on the additional board, I just look at the position, think and make the move on the physical board and then make the same move on the phone.)

Anyone who is having difficulty with getting used to otb playing can try this method.

I have a problem with board play. Online is easier

I was playing like 99.9% of my games online so far and I find it really difficult to play over the board with a similar quality I play online. I would even say that I play better chess in 3+0 online blitzes than in 15+10 over the board rapids... I can easily spot all simple tactics in 3+0 blitzes but I tend to miss even the most basic ones over the board (like mates, hanging pieces, simple double attacks etc.). It has something to do with my vision of the board. I can easily grasp the position on the diagram but I cannot really quickly visualize standard 3D chess position and hence missing pretty simple stuff... It is really frustrating to me to miss very simple stuff over the board and my standard online rating is like 300-400 ELO higher than my regular one. The difference is even higher for blitz rating. It is not because I am a really weak player making just a quick moves in online play. It is rather because my tactical vision is so much weaker on a physical board compared to the 2D diagrams... I can only see two ways I can get better in the over the board chess. The first one is to play more tournaments, the second one is to practice solving tactics blindfolded (without looking at a diagram). If someone knows a better way please let me know. I am really frustrated with my quality of play over the board.

@shine5, Your idea is pretty cool. I will try it definitely.

I actually wanted to create little coin pieces that have the piece on the top somehow readable from both sides so they don’t look upside down for either player. Then I can kinda stand up or hover a bit to feel more like online haha. I blunder like a sob (even more) over the board.

You guys are really ignorant. The real TRUTH is this.

This website is full of cheaters. The site will sit there and give you a statistic, "Less than 0.2% of new accounts get banned for cheating." So this must mean hardly anyone cheats, right??

WRONG. These players online use engines. And when they get an advantage, they turn the engine off. It's that simple to ghost getting banned and to keep cheating. At high elos, this matters greatly. So I a nutshell, ya OTB play is FAIR. And it's realistic that most people just aren't that good at chess.THAT IS REALITY.

REALITY isn't, "Oh wow everyone online is pretty good." No, it's, "Oh I see, these lil Dingleberries are straight up cheating till they get a huge advantage, then play the game out with that on their own.

This site is Garbo; trust me. The 12eet4rd admins  have no clue what they are doing. They have no clue the amount of cheaters that are infesting this site. Trust me, it's a freaking cess pool of cheaters.  Getting away with cheating, daily, doing what I described above. And you'll notice, it's these l0w self esteem foreigners who are too broke to play in any tourney. Ya like middle eastern countries n crap. Like they are pure$cum and this website is d0gsht. If you want to know your real rating and skill, go play in person. You'll see, there is a HUGE difference between online and OTB. Really is and it's for this reason, 100%. It'll never be fixed either, the admins have d0wns. It's not paranoia on my part either. Literally go create an account and do what I said. Use an engine to get a huge advantage in the game, then turn it off and finish the game yourself. You'll NEVER get banned, until you reach all the masters. That how I know. I can tell because I practice vs very strong A.I. and I'll run into some stupid1300 elo 13ich from some junktown country and he's opening like freaking stockfish. His mid game is stockfish. And then he almost throws end game, but his advantage was so huge from using an engine at the start, DOESNT MATTER
