So, I've been on chess.com a few weeks now and have been surprised at how nearly ubiquitously English is used and how well it is used by folks with flags from all over the world.

The other pa-Ruski thread got me to wonder why that is. I'd have expected to see all sorts of languages here. Does chess.com require English?

Actually no, although some of the posts using Google to translate are a bit "off".  You can change the default language very easily by clicking on the last word here:

So, ineptness aside Wink, thanks for that baddogno.

What I was really meaning was that these forums are nearly all English (not the chess.com site itself).  Only very rarely to I see another language used and I find that surprising amongst an international chess crowd.

Yes, I'm always surprised by how well most of the posters speak English. In many cases, it won't even be their second language... but more likely their third or fourth.
