People who started playing chess in 2020- How good are you?

As most of us know, the pandemic and the queens' gambit brought forth an influx of interest in chess, I see many people on the website who say they started in 2020. I'm curious how everyone who started then is progressing... and if anyone of you people have the talent to become titled players. Tell me when you started, what interested you, and your current rating.

@blueemu wow, an O.G... Did you ever get the chance to play any legends, in a simul or something?

I played Tal in a simul in 1988. He was ranked fourth in the world at the time. I drew. Karpov and his trainer Dzindjashvili (both strong GMs) were standing right behind me, watching the game.

Judging by your username, you seem especially qualified to ask about 2020.

@blueemu, did you save the notations? I hope? I'd be interested to see that game

At the time, I saved it. But I've moved house several times (and thousands of kilometers) since then, and I no longer know where the scoresheet is.

It's a tragedy.

You've already seen a sample of my play, of course... that "Kids, don't try this at home!" Najdorf.

Started playing Jan 2020 while on a road trip with a mate, downloaded the chess.com app to play each other, started doing some lessons on there one night to learn some strategy rather than play blindly and got hooked! My current blitz rating is 1001 and my daily rating is 1362

Yea I remember that game. Well damn, I'd be really upset if a lost that notation sheet. That's your ticket to chess immortality !

i dont know

Started seriously in 2020 january..surprisingly i started playing seriously 2 months before pandemic during my board exam times because i heard its good for ur brain ...and i ended up playing chess rather than studying xd

but my friend taught me how to play well when i was 12...(im currently 17 and will turn 18 next month)

i was introduced to the game when i was 5 years old by my grandfather ..only knew some basic rules and thats it ....

but from 12 to 15 i forgot about the game completely because of life and then pandemic was a bonus soo ya..

Well

It has been a long journey, but after starting with my ratings at like 300,  I have managed to get to almost 1500 for all ratings, highest rating was 1700 bullet, but when I first started I got hooked and didnt stop playing for a couple months, but when summer hit after school I stopped and lost a lot of talent, then got into SpeedCubing when school started again, now I am here casually playing a couple of games a day, I am not that good, definitely have gotten worse from where I was a couple weeks ago

@Gump_forest you're already better than me, a guy who has taken chess seriously for nearly 5 years now. You've got potential!

I started in 2019, I am now 1900 rapid, 1800 blitz on this website

I am trying to play a chess game and it says I am disconnected. Why? I was about to enter into a Ruy Lopez.

tyler0300

Started in July 2019 but started facing serious concepts in December 2019-January 2020. Now I only play bullet, and I'm rated 1900 bullet but only on lichesssad.png

Kotshmot

I started 4/2021, played an unholy amount of games over the summer on lichess and peaked in january 2022 at like 2100 (lichess). Didnt feel the hunger to improve anymore and Im still sitting at the same rating playing occasionally, here 1900 rapid.
