I had just such an opportunity against a "much higher rated player" in a USCF rated tournament, and definitely took the draw. I consider it one of my best games.
(In fact, it was probably one of my better tournaments. I faced three significantly higher rated opponents and one about my level. I lost two and drew two, and my rating went UP! [The draws were against the two highest rated foes.])
I was playing a game against a much higher rated player and in the middle game I had a chance to keep him in perpetual check ( ie. could have force the threefold repitition.) I thought that we were still sometime away from the endgame and thought that my poistion was still very even.
Well I lost the endgame and was told that I should have forced the draw. In a OTB tournament what would you do?
