Clearly my blog is too avant-gard for this version of chess dot com, maybe in a few years, version 12 the site will be ready. wink.png

hah the blogs have disappeared again, man, so broken.

RoobieRoo

can someone post a screenshot of the first page of blogs

Chess.com officially removed the Headline Blogs feature. They say top blogs are not front page worthy anymore. Simply a shame that this is the case without letting us know...

RE-HEADLINE BLOGGERS! Personally, I have greatly appreciated the blogs by such people as simiganfan batgirl and hope to see them in their rightful spot on the front page.

Well, I’m back. I haven’t blogged in a little while, but all the same, I’m extremely disappointed in this decision from Chess.com, which, quite simply, hurts everyone on the site, including Chess.com themselves.

We bloggers started this movement because we believe that good content deserves attention, and that everyone benefits when good content gets the attention it deserves, and that was reflected in the final product of the original HEADLINE BLOGGERS petition: we got bigger audiences, Chess.com got more content and content creators to call its own, and the site itself became more fun for everyone.

We also started this movement because we believe that it’s important that Chess.com promotes everything and anything good on the site and actively fosters a welcoming and supportive community, and because we believe that worthwhile discussion and a fundamental respect for your fellow chess player should always triumph over anything that divides us.

That’s why I think I can speak for many bloggers and blog fans who I’ve spoken to personally when I say that we all feel confused and betrayed by the decision to unheadline our content because “it was no longer front-page worthy” - to us and to many others, that simply doesn’t make sense.

We thought blogging was the best it had ever been - talented new voices were appearing faster than ever before, existing bloggers were at the height of their popularity and at the top of their game, and for the first time, content creators were starting to band together and work with and for each other in the name of promoting anything good on this site, anywhere on this site, and content creation was more attractive and more accessible than ever before.

We thought that everyone who supported this petition had helped to change the site for the better, a change no one would ever want to reverse.

We thought that if nothing else, Chess.com would keep us headlined because we had struck a deal that was good for everyone and that they would have a vested interest in keeping around.

But here we are today, back where we started, less than three months after our hard work led to the exciting new change that was headlined bloggers.

But that’s not why we should be here.

We’re here because it is wrong to give a dog a bone and then take it away. (Thanks @FangBo!)

And we’re here because supporting your content creators is simply the right thing to do.

Thanks @The_Helloer! I’m glad that my long speeches finally serve a purpose happy.png

Hey guys! This IS on my radar and I agree!

SuperSam1

Cool! I would personally love to see more blogs headlined.

DanielGuel

Seems like this was simply a bug. We apologize, Erik if we sounded too frustrated about the whole thing. Thanks!

Then I’m curious - why were we told that Top Blogs weren’t front-page worthy anymore if it was just a bug?

I don't know all of the connections.

What I do know is that when I contacted support, staff member Amanda told me that she was told that top blogs were not front-page worthy anymore. When I asked her to direct me to the person who stated that, I got a reply from staff member Simon (I initially guessed he was @kirkwood, but apparently, his first name is Matt), and I think the confusion about Chess.com front page vs. chess.com/blogs page came up.

But what I do know is that we were told that top blogs are not front page worthy (whether that is true or not). I don't know who exactly said this or made the decision.

It may be harsh but perhaps some of them were not worthy.  I sometimes got the unsettling feeling that of occasion some were little more than clandestine narcissism masquerading as an informative blog.   That is of course not to say that some were not well written and expertly crafted.  Chess dot com wants to have a level playing field, to do away with so called 'top bloggers' and have a judicious member of staff choose a blog from amoung the many to showcase every week.  Someone who is cultured, discerning, who carries impeccable taste, is artistically inclined, informed and erudite and who displays a proclivity for fairness.

I don't disagree with you. Chess.com is at least supposed to be monitoring us top bloggers wink.png
