 I never said anything like that.

Hmmmm....not the sharpest knife in the drawer for sure. Smile

I said the knight can get to 64 squares. And so can a rook. On a crowded board a knight is often faster than a rook at getting to a target square, but once lines are cleared the rook is faster. So put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Be careful not to let general principles turn into dogma. Strong players understand when to follow general principles and when not to. There are certainly situations in which you should exchange bishop for knight..sometimes even rook for knight and in rare cases even the queen.

I just bought this chess book and heres what it says:

knight=bishop=3 pawns

rook=5 pawns, or bishop/knight and 2 pawns

queen=bishop/knight and rook

I agree with this since it does work when you think about it.

Two minor pieces and a rook are usually stronger than a queen.

Definetely.

Sometimes.

During the endgame, you could make an argument that a knight is worth more than a bishop. I have found that to be the case in numerous situations where the opponent has located their pawns on the opposite square as my bishop. True, the pawns eventually have to move, but a knight has a better chance to pick them off than the opposite square bishop. Plus a good knight fork in the endgame can be a clincher. Just my two cents.

That is true. But if you move the bishop into the certain corner that protects the square on your side where the piece is headed, once they get there, it's an easy pickoff.
