I have one pitt bull and a chihuahua. I'm good and no one is in danger. Thank you for your warnings. I see too many people getting exotic animals and have no plans for them . I'm glad you're speaking sane truth.

Right on. it's all just my opinion and I absolutely believe people can have what they want.  Not all people should get what they want though.   Those are the ones I hope the words I speak will reach someday thru you or someone else.  ur clearly a big guy and would do just fine,  my 5'2" friends on FB will be hamburger some day I just know it.  good luck out there!!!!

ThunderInc, just to point out the obvious you are making comparisons between 2 very different animals. A lion is a wild animal, a dog is an animal with 30k years of domestication behind it. A lion can and does survive in the wild, dogs literally cant survive without humans. Even feral dogs live on the fringes of humans. Dogs are the one animal that have been companions to humans in every society, European, African, Asian, American, Polynesian and Australian. Its historically an extremely complex relationship with co-evolutionary benefits for both sides. Its not a stretch to say humans would be a very different animal without dogs and vice versa. Comparing dog behavior to lion behavior is like comparing a bicycle's speed to a Ferrari's.

Opinion is always good but there is always truth and some people do not like what they find.

Such is chess. It always looks like a good move....

ANOK1

the dog in my avi , gizmo , was a mongrel , a clever dog but he did like to fight a lot , but I got to know him and could spot when he was going from grr mode to full on fighting , then id grip him by the neck and rump and raise him above my head to prevent him doing it , dogs aren't always angels sometimes they can be gits too , and that's where the human steps in and prevents it , if they don't then that human risks not only losing their 4 legged friend but also has to face the consequences of the harm that dog might have done ,

I had a dog who bit my dad right below the eye. Maybe 40 lbs dog.

My dad calmly gets up, checks his face in the mirror for a few minutes, then calmly says "well, I'm going to go get some stitches" and he leaves.

The most surprising thing to me was how nonchalant he was. Since the dog held on a little bit, I'm pretty sure I'd have been throwing punches during or after the bite.

tale of web,   you need to stop.   the comparison is about how people think no matter the animal,   even in cases when the animal certainly can win,   they ignore the warnings because of the cheers of their friends,  JUST HOW GREAT THEY ARE!!!! AND SWEET!!!!!   people are stupid,  pointing it out because it can be found anywhere and usually is.  here as well.

i appreciate your response earlier Erikson.  you must admit your dealing with a dangerous animal and temperment has nothing to do with that statement.  it never does when classifying an animal.  the mistake is here,  on the farm we had a live in staff,  (your the staff at your place) also had guards and overseers to the different cats.  so when someone was around the cat,  say feeding it,  the guard would be there too. this is the point i'm trying to make to all pit owners.  none of them are prepared for when a bite wil happen.  it may or may not be you,  you have a greater risk than i do.  i havent been shot by a neighbor either,  hit by a bus or plane.  there we are equal.  saying your dog wont bite because it knows love is the worst thing you could say in public possibly ever.  a dog that actually requires 2 people and your misleading,  women,  children,  the outright naive,  elderly, the general public every time you say that.   it further ill prepares these people for what COULD come.  when i learned a lion can break your legs and back just by rubbing up against you like a house cat does I no longer wanted to go in the cage alone.  when they roar the ground shakes.  I guess you have to see it or live it to be able to let the warning alone guide your steps.

Yeah, you need to know the body language of a dog, and the warning signs it gives.

Also pits are more dangerous because their bite is more powerful.

But temperamentally I don't think pits are more or less dangerous than other dogs (I may be wrong about that though)

The dog who bit my dad had been abused by a previous owner, and you had to be careful around it. My dad wasn't careful.

erickson I'm sorry if I offended you, but what I went through was traumatic for me and it made me think differently about dogs, but most importantly pit bulls. and if your pit hasn't attacked anybody, then that's awesome

ThunderInc

right on stigg.

Oceanic_Princess2

Yea. No one else needs to be attacked and/or killed by a pit bull ever again

One time while walking my dog, I saw a dog that had escaped its yard.

And it's a good sized dog, maybe 60 lbs. but at least I see it has a collar, and it's groomed, so it's not wild or anything.

It was alert though, so I didn't want to turn around, I had a feeling it would chase us. It was walking towards us, so I walked towards it as calmly as possible, at a normal pace, and didn't make eye contact. My dog (the one that had been abused by previous owner) had grown up on a farm with a lot of animals, and had good dog-manners (just didn't trust humans), so I trusted him with dogs.

So nothing happened, they smelled each other and we started walking away.

The reason the story is interesting, IMO, is just then another guy was walking onto the street. He and the dog saw each other at the same time. The guy froze, and the dog immediately started barking, ran over there, and wouldn't let him on the street tongue.png

You are lucky he didn't kill you and your dog.

Just how many accounts do you make every day?

Anyway, killing both of us would probably be a challenge with so many houses nearby. Latching onto an arm, for example, might mean I lose a lot of blood, but death is pretty hard if medics are called quickly.
