I once tried a book of multiple choice plan-selection puzzles and found that my results were approximately the same as those of a monkey. I think the authors were Bellin and Ponzetto if you want to try to track it down, but my guess is that, for now, if a person has recently read the Wilson book, it is probably better to go for other sorts of instruction. Planning and ideas in chess

Can anybody recommend a book or study method/device for studying plans and ideas much in the same way that tactics can be studied. Is there some resourse that gives a position and you must come up with a plan/ideas for that position? Eg there is a position and a few plans and you must select the best plan. Also is there a book much like Wilsons simple attacking plans that explains the most commons plans and ideas for common positions or just the most common plans and ideas most often deployed in chess?
