Let's hope so. Oh by the way. I am making a custom set as well. I am having thechessempire.com make it for me. I will post pictures of it once I have pictures sent to me from the chess empire. I am calling the set, The Russian Bride. It is a combination of chess set designs I like the most into one set.

I am not trying to hijack this thread. It is not my product. I have no plans for selling my custom set. Only one will ever be made. It is for my own personal use. Sorry that you got the wrong impression that I was trying to hijack this thread.

Judging from the looks of the cabinets in the background, The Chess Empire is also making the Alegria set.

That is quite an astute observation, sir. I believe you might be right.

It has become a small world with the Internet. I can tell you this the Legend Alegria Staunton set is an exclusive product of Legend Products. I own it's design, molds, exclusive production rights as well as it's distribution. The Chess Empire did not create this set. I have contracted with them to make this set for me in wood. If you read the history of the Chess Empire you would find I dealt with his father since 1991. His father now has cancer and he has taken over his father's company.

His son is such a wonderful man. Very friendly and understanding.

I thought an update in order, the timeline on delivery of this set has slipped it will no longer be here in time for Christmas.  I am sorry if this is a disappointment, I know it is for me. There is for those who may not know a list for those wishing to reserve set. As I have mentioned 20 sets are being made.  I have offered an introductory price which is $349 plus shipping.  No money is required untiI  I am ready to ship. I have received the first working proto type set and will post more information on the weighting soon

Looks like a great set Dennis, and from the price, you seem to love chess a lot more than money as $349 for a set as this, looks very reasonable.  I am sure you will sell out very quickly. Congratulations on making this set in wood. I own it in plastic and it is awesome in that material. Duplicated in wood, it has to be a set that will be highly collectible (my opinion).

And I do not get any remuneration whatsoever from Dennis, In fact, he does not even know me, except for the one transaction on eBay which went smoothly.

Thank you TundraMike. You know I am 70 years old now. I have seen a great deal of water passing under the bridge. I could write a book on what goes on behind the veil in the chess manufacturing business. Unfortunately not many would read it. History just keeps repeating itself. I never set out to sell the world a chess set. I do enjoy this, I have made some nice sets over the years. I have a pretty good idea why manufactures started selling direct from India. It relates to the Companies that sold their product for them. Primarily credit was supplied to their biggest customers who in turn would not pay their bills over quality issues. Keep in mind there are a hand full of small companies who create their own products in America. All of which rely on different countries India, China, and America to create our products.  My advice is deal with an American businessman who quality controls everything themselves and services what they sell several years down the road. Want an original replacement pawn for a  Legend set I made in 1991 I can do that, get the idea?

I myself 68, and I do understand what happened for the most part with the India chess manufacturers, etc. I can see you get great satisfaction in doing this project.  It's more love for the hobby of chess than anything else. It looks like a great set in the making. I would certainly read an article on chess manufacturing and its high and low points. Maybe one day you can compose it and post it in a blog on here.

Good luck with the set it sure is good looking for someone who wants a Staunton Style Set but something a bit different.  I would think your plastic set was a hit.  I have many plastic sets and it is the best of them all.

Beautiful set Dennis. Own the plastic version along with your Kings Indian set as well. Love them both. Hmm is there going to be a wooden Kings Indian set? That would be awesome if you can get that one made.

Avatar of Dennis_Petersen

Thank you glad you like the sets, I would not rule out a Kings Indian Plastic Set in wood.

I had held up production of the Pro LIne Ebony Alegria Staunton Chess Set until better weather conditions as the time stable kept slipping and finalization of my approval of all the knight carvings provided in the sets.
