HI,

depending on how I am playing I fluctuate between 800 and 860 but that appears to be my peak.. what advice would you give for me to go to the next level.. is it to have more openings? or study one more deeply for example? Or spend more time on endgame?

Advice would be welcome thanks!

Have you done all the mastery lesson challenges (& advanced)? I find those very fascinating. If u have not given those a shot it's a start to learn from the masters of chess.

It looks like we have both completed exactly 87 lessons (comparison checked) so there's still plenty to learn. Let's get to 100 & beyond!
I just noticed Today the sort by category - mastery department and it is great. Sometimes when the usual lessons are dull its fun to skip to the last ones.

"Or spend more time on endgame?"

Do you use 'insights'? It'll tell you how many times you make it to the endgame. If most of your games end in the middlegame maybe focus on that.

I think that the most important thing to do is to improve your chess thinking. Dont worry about specific openings. Dont try to solve more puzzles. Rather, learn basic chess principles

Look at books that explain how masters think. A few good books by Chernev or Reinfeld will be better than months of blitz or courses on openings

Play defensive, don't blunder, play rested.

Study one deeply. Just one. See what happens. If your rating goes up, maybe then study an opening as white instead of black.

Don't study endgame. That's a very common mistake, even made by some coaches. There's no point studying endings if you never reach a winnable one at a higher level. That comes later, when you are actually reaching viable endings.
