It might boil down to a battle between age. Everything else being equal, Carlsen will have the advantage of youth. Vishly will not be able to sustain a very high level of mental energy necessary to win against a youthful and formidable opponent. Carlsen is still climbing the mountain, so to speak, whereas Vishly is already preparing to go down.

Just curious about this thinking about the WCC matches coming up.
How do good players split their time between playing and preparing (analyzing, reading, etc.)? The one pro chess champ I know personally only plays about 2 days a week, relaxing and prepping other times.
What does the mix look like for guys like Carlsen and Anand?
