Player cursing at me because I asked for a draw.

My piece dropped 1 tile before I actually set it down, resulting in the enemy getting my queen for free. He knew it was a technical error, but when I offered him a draw, he cursed at me. I didn't know this type of behavior was acceptable.

Tell your mommy.

RoobieRoo

mock them, its the only reasonable solution

ANOK1

its refreshing when another online player realises the move was a mouse error and say draw , it happens but you cannot count on it ever i guess

i guess the time control you play is the solution , play where it gives you time to sit on your hands and this should avoid mouse slips

It's everywhere, this site is full of disrespect just look at most of the replies. The Internet is always gonna be full of people who only want to see you as faceless and worthless. There are some decent players I would stick to longer games if you want decent people but jerks are waiting to be jerks at every level and time length of this game

Cursing is always unacceptable, but if you make a mistake it's their other guy's decision to ask for a draw. Don't count on it, though.

It's not obvious to your opponent that it's a mouse slip -- plausible, yes, accidental, maybe, but not obvious. Blunders come in all forms. Your opponent was wrong to curse you, however. I only offer draws in what I think are equal endgames, never just because I made a mistake.

well said Esteban

Block them.

FourFigureRating

It happens. Take the loss, block the player, move on.

LouStule

Cursing aside, DON'T CLICK AND DRAG!! Click the piece you want to move and then click the square you want it to move to.  Whala' no more "mouse slips". How many times do I have to keep telling you? wink.png

Happens and whining about this doesn't help you, it's rather entertaining for some people (no me, of course). Once I remember I lost the queen due to a mistake and the opponent knew it, so he offered me a rematch, that was fair.

<OP> You're right. It's really unpleasant. I hope and believe that most people wouldn't act like that - and that at least some of them would grant the draw.

It also depends how the position was BEFORE your mouse slip, and what's the relation between the ratings.

If you had a bad position anyway, or you had much less time or your clock (in blitz), or if you're lower-rated by about 100 points or more - I would never grant the draw.

Cherub_Enjel

Usually you'd expect the cursing from the player who made the mouseslip.

Daybreak57

I personally do not accept draws for mouse slips.

Reason #1  You do not know if they are lying or not

There really isn't any way to know if they are telling the truth.  Sure you can look at the position and say, hey, isn't it obvious, but for as many times someone said "it was obvious that it was a mouse slip the last move," someone did a really stupid blunder that was easy to see.  It could be that he is embarrassed that he made that move and wanted to say it was a mouse slip to save face and rating points, in his mind, he would never do such a thing, so he is justified of the draw if his opponent so chooses to accept.

Reason #2  I don't ask for a draw like a pansy when I mouse slip so I expect others to do the same.  I man up to my own mistakes, whether on the board or because I simply moved the mouse wrong...

Usually they will get mad and call you out as having poor sportsmanship but I'd like to call it as a point of view.  They could be lying, and in reality who gives a crap if you lose one game out of a hundred to a mouseslip?  Just think about it.  One game out of a hundred, instead of losing, you draw, that amounts to less than 5 rating points.  Why do you care so much about such a small amount of points?  My point is it's not about the fairness of the matter it's more about the persons ego, they don't want to lose a game they know they mouse slipped, so they offer a draw, standing not to lose 2-3 more rating points, and, standing to be able to gain some crying rights on the chess.com forums when they tell about the situation to others defaming all people who do such a thing.  But, in reality, no body should really care.  The only reason why you would care, is, like I said, you have a big ego, and can't stand to lose just 1 more rating point...

So, in essense, I believe it's bad sportsmanship to ask for a draw when you mouse slip for the two reasons I stated.  Unprovable, and, I think most people are like me, they man up and take the loss with a grain of salt.  There is a third reason to.  WHO FREAKING CARES ABOUT TWO TO THREE RATING POINTS NOT LOST IN A DRAW THAT REALLY SHOULD HAVE BEEN A LOSS ONCE IN A BLUE MOON?  My answer, EGO!  That is my point of view, if you disagree, I don't care, but at least I know you know there is another point of view out there just as valid as your own and are smart enough to consider that maybe perhaps you are being naive to think that it's bad sportsmanship when someone doesn't conform to your own beliefs.

LM_player
Then don't lose.
LM_player
Or block him :P
stewardjandstewardj

it is never OK to curse, but I definitely see why he didn't accept the draw. I wouldn't, but I would never be mean about it

That sounds about exactly right.
