players who hit and run...

i hate hit and run players... even if i get lucky vs an opponent i have the courtesy and honor to give the opponent a rematch, the player who loses as black especially deserves to redeem themselves with the white pieces at the very least

Who said we have to have a rematch ?

kco is correct. While it may be courteous to offer a rematch against an opponent, there is nothing saying it is necessary. I find this irritating myself, but to avoid it happening simply improve. The more games you win, the more you will be able to avoid this from happening.

Hundreds of years ago and long before that, men had a better idea of what honour is. Chess is an unimportant board game though and hardly in the same league as a real fight. The concept of honour appears lost on 21st century males.

Uh-huh...

I'm just going to go over here Romeo.

i agree rematches are the right thing to do.

This is not martial arts. Many people don't see a game of chess as a battle but rather some kind of academic discourse.

the objective is to kill the opponent, martial arts can also be academic it just depends on how u like to see it with your philosophy, but chess is geometry and everything is geometry, in chess u gotta stay poised for offense and defense... just like in boxing for example u cant overextend too much or u get countered so both require a balance of some sort

Duty calls?

Anyway I rarely get a rematch request when I win but I don't really care. There are a bazillion other people to play with. We passed a gazillion last Friday.

Oh, for gosh sakes, it's a board game played between two anonymous players often thousands of miles apart; it's not Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr. (Hamilton, by the way, didn't get a rematch either).

There's no question of honor here. Lots of people play on a lunch break, before dinner, before heading out for the day, even in TV commercial breaks if it's blitz. They just want a game, not a marathon chess session.

If you really want a guaranteed rematch with the hated opponent who just beat you, pick one of the personalities from Chessmaster. They'll always be up for another game.

I sit and analyse every game after I've played it while the ideas are still fresh in my mind. That's my preference, and I derive even more enjoyment from it because of all the hate messages I get from people I have beaten who were absolutely incensed I did not offer them a rematch. I think half of chess.com refuses to play me now - a terrible punishment, by any standards.

I very seldom do rematches.  It's mainly because I find blitz games (especially close ones or where time is tight) leave me needing a minute or two to get over.  I'm 50+ you see, so thinking fast is tricky :-).  If I do rematch I invariably lose, which I suppose is what the rematch fans want.  As many have said before and since, there are plenty more opponents to play.  I guess many people want revenge if they lose; I usually want to work out what I did wrong.

Same here, even the over 50 part.

I take it as a compliment when a player "runs" after one game - maybe he had to go to the bathroom or maybe he feared losing the next game.

Who cares?

haha true i dont lose sleep over a blitz game but chess brings out the worst in me sometimes, i have a pretty bad signal at the moment so i lose a lot on disconnect and as punishment i have a 5 minute wait per game lol... and to top it off i disconnected right before i had a smotherd mate and ill confess i was upset, but its my fault i diddnt premove it. ive had bad luck lately

If you would like to play two matches with a player, then join Team matches. They always play two games, one of each color. Those on a team usually don't run. Some matches both games start at the same time.

I only had one player that ran away in about 200 games. To be honest with you, I was one of the players that ran away on six games. I made the first move and resigned. I had a problem at the time.

Here is the game I played when the player ran away on the second game.

When there is nothing to lose or gain except mocked-up rating points, too many players do not go in with all guns blazing, with adrenaline pumping and real stakes up for grabs on the outcome.

It's such an act of pussy to make chess uncompetitive and a basic membership leisure activity

totally agree with u its about the enjoyment of the game although the rating makes it fun  chasing the numbers, but at some point people need to just man up and play chess. im not the type to babysit my rating because my rating will be where it belongs and deserves to be in the longrun

I'm a "hit and run" player. You have one chance to win me, if you lose then you have failed in your mission. The only way you'll get a rematch is by being polite, which for many is a mountain too hard to climbWink

I hate players who always want a rematch when they lose.
