Players who stall becoming a bigger problem and chess.com indirectly rewards them. This because of the server issues and there is reasonable hope that when you stall a rapid game for 15 mins that the server crashes.

I have never seen anyone of my opponents who stalled being punished by chess.com. In Blitz i don't care but for Rapid it's very annoying. There are also very different reasons why you cant finish a Blitz game. Chess.com should start punishing people for stalling games in Rapid. An with punishment i mean real punishment and not just a time ban of an hour or so.

It is just a game chill

@skygrifer

it's a game and i have full time job i do it in my FREE TIME. it's very low to steal my time. obviously i care more about the time than the rating. what a dumb answer

Derek-C-Goodwin

I am time poor, it has quite an effect on your outlook!

Well, I don't think that waiting around for server crashes is a good game plan.

In the old days, people could disconnect and reconnect multiple times.  Some people would disconnect with a long time to go, forcing the winning side to wait out the end of the time control.   You couldn't take your attention off of the game or go to another window because sometimes people would rejoin close to the very end of the time control.

They have largely solved that problem, automatically calling the game when someone disconnects in losing positions.

However, the server problems may have temporarily brought this back.   I guess people are desperate for rating points.

At any rate, I hope that the server instability is a temporary situation that will soon be fixed.

You could always resign if someone started stalling.

Unfortunately this site also rewards people for writing just about anything in the forums via a system of  'points' and 'awards', with downvotes being no kind of disincentive (afaik).

Chess.com doesn't reward misconduct.  If you believe someone has violated the site rules of fair play, report them.  Simple as.

OP you need to understand that this is 2023: online gamers are prone to lowlife behavior, and this site is no different than any other in this regard.  Some really good folks playing to be sure, but most are quite vile.  Honestly the tech support folks deserve medals for the BS they have to put up with these days.

Just do well to report them. Chess.com does not condone such behaviour. They will punish them. But I think it has to be severe before they close an account for stalling.

sometimes they need to use the bathroom

Half of the post contributors understand nothing and didnt even read my OP just trolling answers.

All i ask for is more severe punishment like a month ban or so. obviously i also get that the closure of an account would be a bit too harsh because of stalling

......

If they got banned for a month, do you think they'd just sit there or do you think they'd make a new account?

Yeah if rating doesn’t matter to you then just resign
Daft21

@hrarray i certainly dont want to reward their low life behaviour

@idilis for examplewink

Guy in Blitz i dont care if the stall. But who of you doesnt care if the other person stalls for 12-15mins? i am also afraid to tab switch and do something else because of cheat detection.If I tab switch chess.com might register my 100% winrate when switching tabs and interprete it wrong

i switch tabs like 30 times a game and haven't been banned lol

What do you mean by "stalling?"

Taking as much time as they want to move is part of the game

Not moving or resigning in a lost position is utterly childish, pathetic behaviour and players who are guilty of this should be made to sit in the naughty corner for at least a month, before they are allowed to play chess with grown-ups again.

Maybe use your free time to do something else that doesn’t require taking turns with someone.
