Playing chess after very long time
Play against computer. Learn some new tips, and git gud. I've been playing chess for about 30 days. So what do I know?? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . But I've been studying hard. Learning defenses like Sicilian and all the variations.

Tactics Trainer can help with the blunders. Also, don't play all your games at a fast time control--play some slower games as well. But mainly be patient, it will come back.
I quit playing seriously for 27 years. The first tournament after that was brutal (I had been 2100 and got a performance rating of 1300) but it got better; after 2 years I think I'm close to as good as I was then.
There's a grandmaster in Oregon who did roughly the same thing, and from watching him play, it looks like it might also take him a year or so to regain much of his strength.

I have other hobbies besides chess. I go between them all in phases. When i start to lose interest in chess and lean toward another hobby, as i do from time to time, i still make myself do about 15 puzzles everyday. They only take a few minutes and it keeps me from losing all the ground I gained when chess was my main thing. Something to think about when you feel your interest slide next time. It's such a great game that you know you'll eventually be back.
