Playing chess for money using chess engines
P.S. Do not confuse gambling and games based on skills.
It is indeed a game that requires skill, however it only helps you win consistently if there is actually a huge difference in skill level, but when almost everyone in the tournament is a GM or where the difference in skill is minimal, then luck plays a much bigger role - such as who gets the better pairing, who had better sleep that night, who gets the better tie-break, etc.
It's just like poker where some players have more "skill" in reading their opponents, or blackjack where some players have more "skill" in card-counting.
Whay I said.It is bad tendency to trivialize and degrade this beautiful game.
What is Centaur chess?
Centaur chess is what we are talking about: chess between humans who are supported by engines. It's also being played on playchess.com, btw.

When a human being play chess for money (prize) against another human being do you consider that is gambling ? I don't think so.Games of chance you meet in Casinos only, which are restricted in some countries or towns.
Kasparov or Anand play for money with software .I don't think so.
I am not confusing anything. Ofcourse it is gambling. Two people placing any amount of money (say £100 for example) on any event are gambling. That could be on a coin toss, boxing match, chess, flipping beer mats, poker...literally anything. Betting money on the outcome of an event is gambling.

Well with that idea it would mean all tournaments and championship matches "trivialize and degrade" the game because all those include playing for money where the winner is uncertain.

Yes, I think you can play for money on playchess.com.

adip2009: your arguments are irrelevant. The people putting money on the line don't care about your ideals, nor your definitions about gambling and sport, etc.
Also, distinguishing games of skill from gambling is completely wrong. It's clear you are no poker player, and trying to say games of chance is restricted to a particular venue is laughable. Chess is no game of chance? Are you sure? The rating system itself is a glorified system of pot odds. Whenever you're dealing with performance statistics, you're dealing with chance.
Back to the real issue, playing robo chess is in my opinion, too hands-on if you want to make money.

Ok .I see you make a huge confusion between game chances and games based on skills.I ask you something else. The Bible forbids games like footbal or chess ? No.Bible forbids games like poker, blackjack, etc.which for the most part are based on luck. The games FROM THE CASINOS,where everybody can gambling.

Poker is very much a game of skill. If it weren't, you wouldn't see the same faces in the finals of the world championships every year. Sure there is an element of luck, but that is true of most games. For the most part the top players are very skillfull though.

Discussing religion breaks forum rules.

Using the Bible as a reference, to argue a modern topic, should see you kicked out of your own thread.

verybad...if you say my arguments are irrelevants ,you say to God his arguments are irrelevants because God doesn't like gambling.
The rating system (elo) was created by an hungarian-american mathematician and physicist ,Arpad Elo.You know the mathematics is an exact science ? Chess Robot is chance game ?No.Is mathematic. Is an exact science.Chess is not a chance game.

I don't think so Doggy.

pfren, in his greater wisdom and experience is right about another thing. Even if you have a strong computer, a GM with a strong computer is still better off. Games against robified GMs is added expenses to a patzer with a strong computer. I'll say it again, robochess is horrible way to make money.
Lastly, using the religion angle to support personal values is straight up blasphemous. I'm not even a believer, and I recognize this as so. Not only that, adip2009 uses it to cover the fact he doesn't even understand simple ideas like chance.
