Dear diary.
Playing Chess on Waikiki Beach

I also recall there were usually games on Waikiki beach when I was stationed there in the early 2000s. Not sure if it still happens. One of these guys even looks a bit like me (lot younger and it's kinda grainy picture) but I don't think I'd ever wear that shirt...
Those were fun times in chess. Playing chess @ Waikiki!!! I used to remember people from all over the world would get together here and play chess. Now I realize also, that there were a lot of homeless chess players as well there...
Funny story... I parked my black 1988 RX-7 there (no parking zone) right next to the chess tables and it got towed...

Wow...just stumbled back on this. Not to necro my own post but that HAS to be me. Back right dude with head in hand. Even though it's grainy and I am overdressed for how I usually would be at Waikiki, I actually still sit like that, and I think it's my old board and clock too (Russian clock, shaped different from US-made ones). Anyone else ever find a picture of themselves online, just going about normal business? It's an odd feeling.

I was there today.. seen a lot of the old folks.. I went with the intention of reviving chess in waikiki so that can't take it down.. we had 4 tables going, and one clock. about 5 locals, and 4 tourists. Please, if you can, come down and play! I will be there only on the weekends. I will bring extra boards, to influence as many ppl to play.. I owe Master Rudy this.. and I guess I'll do it for Grandmaster George too.. lol
I remember playing back from 1999 until 2002 or so
