I am a beginner and was playing a rated game using ChessMaster 10. CM declared "Draw by three fold repitition". I have read the Threefold Rule over and over and still can not see how this position occured 3 times. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The same position occurred three times, with the same legal moves. It just didn't involve the same pieces being moved three times.

I couldn't find it at first either, but It's moves 33, 35, and 37.

Thank you so much baddogno...that's exactly what I needed...to be told exactly which positions were exactly the same. Whew that was close...I was going to give up on chess if I couldn't understand this but at least now I see why CM declared it a draw. I think it's a really, really stupid rule but I'd be willing to bet that has been beaten to death.

Yes, the repetition rule refers to positions, not to moves.

probably against a human player no one would have noticed

If the human player was dilligent enough and wanted it then they would've found it.

FYI....Chessmaster will automatically declare a threefold rep a draw.

That is not the way it works in OTB play or on this website, where threefold rep must be claimed by pressing the "offer draw" button.
