I think he's making a philosophical statement about the human condition. Politics and computers are two things that define modern society. The former represents how modern society has shaped our interactions with other people, while the latter represents modern science, which shapes how we look at the world. Both are artificial creations of this day and age. The person is saying essentially that these artificial aspects of modern life ultimately don't matter, and that what's really important is our universal, unchanging human nature.
