The new puzzle Difficulty setting is currently only changeable on the website.
There are a number of different changes and some more coming soon. This is information from staff.
We are currently working on a significant overhaul of our puzzle difficulty system and puzzle ratings. Over time, the current puzzle rating algorithm created highly inflated puzzle ratings for our members — and consequent inaccurate estimates of a puzzle difficulty. As we roll out our new system, you may see some inconsistencies in your puzzle stats, and rating changes from puzzles solved and missed may be greater than in the past.
We ask you to wait with us just a bit longer! Since in the coming weeks we will be publishing an entirely new rating system for puzzles for all members. We’re confident it will be a major steps towards our ultimate goals:
- Provide a more meaningful rating which correlates more closely to player’s Blitz and Rapid ratings.
- Serve puzzles better suited for each player’s level.
- Offer options to member who are looking for different puzzle-solving experiences.

i have it the other way around. im only 850 elo and my puzzle ratings are sometimes 2200 and i play almost daily so its defo a bit skewed.

Version v4.9.1-googleplay-265340 on Android has the settings
More > Settings > Puzzles
That may be the beta version, so if you're updated and don't see the settings, they should be available soon

I don't see any that high in your recent history. You would have seen some like that before the update

I refuse to believe that this new puzzle system is better. Before all this I was around 2600, and I'd get puzzles in the 2200-3000 range. All of my puzzles are 1900 maximum on EXTRA HARD. And even these feel so overinflated. Seriously, look at the image below.
I'm not even trying on these puzzle, like watching YT or barely focusing, and I've still one of my longest streaks ever. I am completely unchallenged, and I think that this is the actual aim of chess.com. By having people at lower ratings succeed more frequently in puzzles, they feel as though they're making progress & getting better, making them more likely to invest time and money into this website.

I agree 100%. I'm currently at 3300 puzzle elo and it won't give me puzzles above 2200. I like the free points but this is not helping my chess

Title: Looking for Advice and Friendly Matches – Rating 1600–1700 Hi everyone, I'm Zakaria Al-Fahad, a chess enthusiast with a current rating between 1600 and 1700. I've been training seriously over the past months, and while I've made solid progress—especially in endgames and general positional play—I still find myself struggling in the opening phase and sometimes miss critical plans in the middlegame. I’m currently working on tactics almost daily, playing both rapid and classical games, and following master game analyses online. I'd really appreciate your advice on a few things: What books, courses, or YouTube channels helped you the most at this level? How do you structure your training time effectively across tactics, strategy, and endgames? Any tips on improving decision-making during critical middlegame moments? Also, if anyone around the same rating range is interested in friendly matches with post-game analysis, feel free to reach out. I'd love to learn together and grow. Thanks in advance and good luck at the board! Best regards, Zakaria Al-Fahad
