"Checkmate Beth Harmon" is a Boston Globe article by columnist Alex Beam. He describes his addiction to chess in the wake of "The Queen's Gambit".
He reports being a regular player here although at the time of the column, he said he was on suspension for poor sportsmanship, laughingly admitting to abandoning games:
I know: You are wondering about my alleged sportsmanship violations. A Chess.com Support Team member named Josh explained: “I personally checked your account and I found that our system applied an automatic restriction on it because of a high disconnection rate. . . . The reason for this is that sometimes, people intentionally leave a game when they are about to lose, but I know this isn’t the case with you.”
Perish the thought! Pawn to d4. Your move.
I am surprised. I thought that poor sports could be put in a special pool or made to sit out five minute delays between games. I didn't know they could be suspended.
Is this new? If it is, it should encourage people that chess.com is taking the sportsmanship rules seriously.
"You resign now!" was one of Mr. Shaibel's best lessons.
My account was just suspended for unsportsmanlike conduct. As far as I can remember I have only ever had one or two games aborted and they were accidents. My phone running out of power was the reason the game ended. Still I have noticed a lot of members abandoning games, so why was I targeted. The last game I played before my account was suspended, I played till the end. I even congratulated the victor. Why the hell was my account suspended?
Six? I've been playing for months now. I have probably played more then 50 games. 2 Aborts is only 4%. I might have have only had six 20/20 games though. If this is what they are referring to, is there any way to get off of suspension?
