ok, so i need help. but, i actually know what i need help with. i need help with knowing how to improve my position. i guess i know that you need to like double your rooks, and not block your bishops with your pawns, but i need to know more so that i can improve. and i especially need help with closed games, because i am really bad at playing closed positions. can anyone help me or reccomend some good books?

I don't know of any books made specifically for closed positions, but I'd say first look for lessons, videos, or articles on what you're looking for, and if that doesn't work, go to your local library. Just do the research yourself and you'll probably be fine.

Actually, I'm pretty sure I screwed it up. I had an incredibly good position and you had no counterplay, but I messed up and lost a pawn. I still think it's playable but jeez was I stupid.

How to navigate closed positions 101: recognizee that you can move your pieces more than three times in three moves

Try reading my posts (and playing through the example games) on the first two or three pages of this thread:

GM Larry Evans' method of static analysis - Chess Forums - Chess.com

It covers the question of how to break a position down into elements and how to synthesize a plan from those elements.

That means you're on the road to chess mastery!

I had to lose thousands of games before I started getting good.

avoid closed positions. What do you play I might be able to help

for white i play the scotch game, which works out great for me.

for black, i recently started playing the pirc, although i still dont really like it. could you give me some suggestions on what to play for black?

play e5 or d5. Its simple but not closed. It will help your positional. My recommendation would actually be to try those types of positions and see if you like. If not, try playing aggresive then defensive :/

While I can't recommend any books, I do have a tip: Activate your knights in closed positions. If you don't have any, break open the position.

yeah, i always aim for open poistions, or at least try to make open positions
