If one has a space advantage and the bishop pair, would it be wrong to gain more space and locking up the position?  or should you immediately rip open the center? Generally speaking.

Bishop pair needs open space! So locking the position is absolutely the wrong plan. Then play on the side where your Bishops are pointing towards and coordinating your other pieces for the attack.

Alright, I was just curious, becaus I've been reading How to Reasses your Chess by Silman and he practically preaches how good space advantage is.  So I was just wondering if it was acceptable sometimes.  Thanks for the feedback :)

Yeah, space "advantage" is a misnomer like the "ideal" pawn center.  A sharp player can crack an ideal center or punch through a cramp.  It isn't a disadvantage either, especially with many pieces still on the board, but is simply an imbalance to consider.

Ehh, it can definitely be a deadly force.  He has many examples of winning off of pure space advantage, and constricting your opponent to death.

If you don't open the center when you had the chance, your opponent will definitely close it if he knows about playing against the Bishop pair. Space advantage gained through open position outweights greatly the advance of a pawn to obtain space on your opponent's side of the board.

Yeah, I figured that, but I closed the position anyways, and eventually checkmated the player.  I probably should have lost lol.

Chess computer programs uses space advantage to evaluate position and rate it with either a + or - sign followed with a digit signifying whose side has a favorable position based on space advantage.
