Positions where a double check can be answered with checkmate

Hello everybody! First of all a little humor! I recently saw the movie "The president's man" starring Chuck Norris... In the movie he plays a game of chess where his opponent puts him in check and he answers with checkmate. That is of course rare in real games but has occured a number of times.

I was discussing this with a friend and we got the idea whether a double check can be answered with checkmate.

We concluded that it is impossible - but allas! I just made the following position:

It is black to move and if he plays 1)... Ba3 (doulbe check from the bishop and the rook) he gets checkmated with 2)Kxa3#.

If you know any other positions where this is possible reply to this post.

C ya all!

Kxa3 is an illegal move.  Kings can not be next to each other no matter what.  Besides, even if you could, they could respond with Kxe5.

after this, the king will be in the bishop's place and that would be an illegal position

im a 1600 online chess player, and you are implying to me that you think that i don't know that kings cant move next to each other on the diagonals?? You also obviously lack the knowledge of which square is which.

Interesting topic! I'd never thought about it before, whether double check could be rebutted by checkmate. And yes, the proposed solution--1. ... Ba3+, 2. Kxa3#--works.

Yep. And the rook is pinned so it can't stall it for one move either.

ravi12346

Double discovered check answered by checkmate.

Very nice position from ravi12346! My setup is just an example. Black of course has a range of options to avoid the mate. Only the move 1)... Ba3++ leads to the mate in 1. (And not Bc3++)

Ravi made a forceful setup - black has only 1 legal move after 1)d4 the en passant capture witch gives double check (from both the bishop and the rook), but since both pieces are pinned white moves his king and delivers checkmate.

You could propose mr Norris to include this position in his next movie!
