You could try to use a tactics book, calculating in your head without the ability to play the natural forcing moves without seeing the entire varation (which is possible in the Tactics Trainer).
And any form of tactical training should at least help your pattern recognition.
Hi, I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions on how to improve tactical play OTB. In correspondence chess, when I use the analysis board, I can come up with some really strong tactical combinations, but when I play OTB, I can't calculate more than 3 moves down the road. Any advice would be appreciated.
