Prearranged draws?

There’s very little chess federations can do about it. There are certain lines in chess that are known draws, but FIDE can’t just ban certain openings. It is super lame, though, and is technically match-fixing.

I remember in the final round of the US Championship this year, So played Nakamura, and they played a known drawn line. A win or a loss by either player wouldn’t change their standings.

Still, they could’ve done something fun. Maybe a bong cloud or some weird opening to please the viewers, but no, they decided to be lame. Booooo.

In the $1.5 Million dollar tournament hosted by airthings(sp) Nakamura and So the two Americans are placed against each other in the opening match. So they played a draw game. I happen to agree with this when in a simultaneous situation.

Well, this is an absurd suggestion on my part, but maybe... duh duh duh...they should BUG the player's rooms in high-stakes tournaments so they can hear if they arrange draws.

They may arrange it somewhere else

or possibly online wink.png

Not my style.  When I insist on winning and if my opponent even thinks about surviving after the first few beats of the game i'm offended.  If someone's going to beat , draw or even put up a fight they are going to have to buy that with blood, sweat, tears and God willing, dumb luck.

Probs not. I bet I can beat u in literally any time control

Please... putting food on the table is a terrible argument. Winning is zero-sum. If you prearrange to secure prize money for yourself and a friend, you’re taking it off the table for someone else. You are using unethical means to deprive someone else of what might otherwise be rightfully theirs.

What a horrid rationalization of a terrible action.

No. The whole point of competition is competition. Fixing games is anti-competitive and banned in all sports. Prearranged draws are inherently no different than prearranged wins or losses. Would you also say it’s okay for the player in last place to throw a game against a player in second place, if the player in second agrees to give the player in last a cut of the prize money? It’s *exactly* the same ethically and it’s crap.
