Premove Mate as Time Expired

I just sent the below message to support. Anyone care to offer their thoughts while I wait until after Thanksgiving for a response?

Whoops, here's the message:

Hello support team, I have a question about the below live blitz game that I played tonight. Check out this #chess game: roseknowsbest vs tallman76 - http://www.chess.com/livechess/game?id=1823032345 It was an epic match with great attacking and defensive maneuvering from both sides. You will notice that in the final position shown in the game, White (me) had a mate in one move with Rg8. Knowing this I made Rg8 my premove during my opponent's turn. There were 0.1 seconds remaining on my clock, and I know from the below support article that a premove consumes 0.1 seconds. My question, though, is shouldn't the premove checkmate take precedence over time expiration? I believe I should have won this game, and not lost on time, based on how premove is described in the article. The move consumed 0.1 seconds and, if you will, my "flag" was not up before checkmate was delivered. https://support.chess.com/customer/portal/articles/1444864-what-are-premoves-and-how-do-they-work- I appreciate you taking the time to review this edge case. Please let me know what is decided. Regards, Michael Rose

My bad on the formatting. It's hard to post such a long message in the mobile app.

Thanks @mn79! Just wanted to include the answer from support for anyone looking at this later on.

Hello Michael!

Thanks for writing in! I am happy to help :)

That was a epic game! Looks it was a lot of fun!

I am very sorry you lost on time! That was super frustrating! I probably would have broken my mouse if that happens to me!

Unfortunately, the .1 seconds does tick off your clock before your move is played :(

This happens because your clock stops immediately after your move is made! You certainly don’t want your time to continue after you’ve made your move! However, in order for your clock to stop after your move, the time deduction for a pre-move has to come before your move!

I know that is super annoying but we made it that way so that its consistent with how the clock works on normal moves!

However, it would be really nice if our developers could change the way the clock works for great games like this one!

I have contacted them to see if its possible!

I hope you have many more great games like this one only with plenty of time on your clock!

I wish you a great day!

Cheers!
