"Problems are the Poetry of Chess",it is said.Poetry is admired but not as widely read as other forms of literature. The same is the case with problems in the field of Chess.
The fantastic positions in problems are unrelated to actual play,but the reasoning and ideas in a problem are the same as those in an actual game.The only difference lies in the pure and piquant manner in which they are presented.Thus problem (solving) cannot only be helpful in sharpening the wits of the player but also enhances the practice of achieving the estimated goal in chess.
The main merit of the problem is the way it teaches the player how to appreciate the beauty of a problem.
The themes in the problems may be likened to Figures of Speech and their knowledge enhances one's capacity to comprehend the composer's artistry!
