program to create book of my games..

I’m looking to make a book out of my games.  Are there any good programs available to do this.  Free programs are obviously preferable, but I wouldn’t mind paying for one either.  I know I can enter all of my games in Chessmaster, but is there a way to link them?  Are there any programs that can connect similar positions from different games?  I’m not sure if that makes sense, so here is an example of what I’m talking about.

I play 8 moves and reach position A.  In another game I end up in position A from 10 moves.  In chess master if those moves aren’t the same I’ll essentially be on a different branch of the “move tree”, but in the same position.  I want a program that will be able to tell me “you’ve been here before in this game”.

I’m attempting to identify bad trends in my playing and would like to see the loosing positions regardless of how many moves it takes me to get there.

I think I understand what you are looking for. You want to find a particular position in one of your own previous games. You can download SCID, a database application in the [downloads] section at chess.com. (It's free.) Then make a database of your games in SCID and you will be able to search for various positions.

tonight must be the night where i run around saying Fritz Fritz ; ) You can do position search from databases (with the option of saving your own games to a seperate 'you' database). I like it because you can also see how different lines play out. If I play badly one game, I can try to improve on the line. If all goes well, I'll get further and further into the game before Fritz smashes my head
