Promoting chess to the poor?

I've been thinking of donating lots of cheap made in china chessboards to the poor and teaching them how to play chess, would this be a good idea?

Maybe kids on public schools or ones paid by charity organizations

rich kids are probably too busy playing with their 3ds and stuff so I'm thinking of just targeting the poor

If you have the money, it would be awesome.

I heard of one guy, who inherited some money, and took to some poor place, and made a chess school where everyone could come and play and be taught chess for free.

I'm not that rich, I'm thinking around 1000 chessboards and that's it.I think a local or made in china board could cost around $0.30-0.50 but it might be less if I contact the manufacturer and buy in bulk

chess books that covers the basics and all popular openings are pretty cheap too, I bought 1 for around $2 and I think it could go for a lot less in bulk without the middlemen and mall rent

I think it'll cost $1000 max to buy 1000 kids a chess board+basic book

The National chess federation here doesn't even have a website or an office in most provinces so it's gonna have to be done by the middle class and hopefully some rich foreign philantropist

When I was in high school, I taught kids in the East side (my poor immigrant community) how to play chess, donated some chess supplies at the end of the summer program, it was great! It is definitely a fulfilling experience, you learn a lot , meet a lot of new people, and spread the knowledge, not just of chess, but of life! I mostly taught elementary students, and it was only for 1 summer, but even then, the kids loved it. Wish you best of luck, and now because you reminded me of my experience, might start to plan another program sometime in the future, thank you! Love it when people endeavor to make the world a better place!
