How can you get frustrated after only 18 attempts?

obviously you need to get better at tactics to achieve higher PR scores.

Exactly, and that takes a long time.

Tricks might increase your score a little, but mostly it's just how good you are at tactics.

My problem isn't speed... I don't know what it is. I've tired all the tips I've received so far.

Again... there's probably not going to be significant improvement immediately due to tips. It's just daily practice, even if it's only 25 tactics a day!

Puzzle rush is SO frustrating. I just can't seem to get over 13 again.

When I take the time I can't get enough. When I don't take as much time I can get high but I miss three too early.

The one time I had the chance to beat my record was when I had 11 points and 2 minutes left. But then I missed for the third time...and I blew it.

So are there any tips for this mode? It is so much fun (and frustrating both at the same time) that I want a decent record. Can anyone help?

Think of Puzzle Rush as a test.  It tells us how good we are when we take the test.  To get better at taking the test, you need to do your homework.

When taking the test, you have a sense for the puzzles where you start to struggle.  For me, right now, that is around 1100.  To get better, I go to the tactics page and set the rating range to 1100-1400.  And then I hammer away at just those puzzles.

I see the patterns and learn those patterns.  Once a week or so, I retake the test to see where I start to struggle.

Keep in mind there are 2 important metrics for Puzzle Rush.  The headline metric is the Max.  The average is equally important as it shows consistent accuracy.  And accuracy is what wins games.

The average is only a good metric if you never let anybody else from your family try puzzle rush from your account, and if you never quit after you miss an early puzzle...

Yes. I need to stop doing that.

Most player will probably improve more with classic tactics... you get better by pondering the moves. Puzzle rush has become a classic... nanananana i get a better score than you... which will appeal to the bullet crowd.

ugh thats unfortunate

Of course not. I'd do anything to have 23 on Puzzle Rush. Lol.

I saw your blitz and puzzle rating < 1000. You should not expect 23 in PR with those parameters.

Best tip- Forget about PR score for one year.

Learn motif of puzzles.

Practice puzzles for accuracy (unlimited time/ without time pressure).

Once you are good at tactic rating around 2000, you will definately get 23 PR.

As typified by dumdum above... mine is 29 nanyanana... you cant get 29, i can... nobody cares.

And to lesser rated players struggling... don't be impressed by high scores... this being online i can PROMISE you some of these freaks will have had, like, 2million attempts or something ridiculous... trying to beat hikaru, lol... some of them will play 5hours or more a day... and have probably given Up playing proper Chess.

Lion has spoken.

I have 29, but I have played about 1000 times. It just takes practice, and as you play it more you will start to recognize the patterns and maybe even just remember previous correct answers. Practice some of the harder puzzles in normal tactics mode to boost your confidence.

The first 10 are almost always mate in one or win the queen. Look for those options first to save time. Use your 2 free "strikes" if you need to just move on from a tough problem

Its weird that some people seem to have created accounts purely to practice PR. I don't think it's entirely clear as to whether or not its good for your chess. Definitely for your bullet chess but that sort of has the same question hanging over it

IMHO, what you should do is practice survival (which has no timer) and look over the ones you got wrong. Once you feel comfortable doing that, then, you do the timed puzzle rushes.
