Thanks for the heads up. This is a website that lists other chess movies.
I couldn't find any other movies listed on the site (e.g., Searching for Bobby Fischer or Knights of the South Bronx), but there were a lot of cool videos. I had never seen the Kasparov Pepsi commercial. Funny stuff.
I'm interested in Queen to Play, because I haven't seen any chess films that focuses on adults playing the game.
I bought the DVD for The Luzhin Defence when I was into John Turturro movies. It's okay, just not as good as most other Turturro movies. But it's definitely just about adults playing.
there is satyajit ray's "the chess players"
heath ledger was going to direct a film based on walter tevis's wonderful novel "queen's gambit" but didn't live to do so.
what do you mean?
walter tevis's novel "queen's gambit" is great chess fiction. heath ledger died of an accidental overdose before he cd direct the movie.
I knew about Ledger but In my mind I never connected the movie Queens Gambit now Ill have to read it
here's what tevis said in an author's note to the novel:
The superb chess of Grandmasters Robert Fischer, Boris Spassky and Anatoy Karpov has been a source of delight to players like myself for years.
please remember that health ledger never did make "queen's gambit", i'm sorry to say. but i recommend walter tevis's novel completely. there are many great chess novels. this is one of them.
"queen to play" is a french movie, that recently opened here, in the u.s..
i found it enjoyable. it's kind of quiet & subdued but beautifully captures fascination with chess.
Caught it yesterday on Netflix. Very light on content and quite charming ... but devoid of any "Good vs. Evil" melodrama or the compelling storytelling / brilliance of a gem like Fresh.
I did appreciate the way they stayed accurate with the positions on the board.
I don't know if this has already been mentioned on the forums, but a new chess movie is coming soon...
