Question about playing with the board AND pieces rotated 90 degrees

This isn't a "why not black square on the right" question. This is about rotating the entire game by 90 degrees, so the white pieces are on the left, and the black pieces are on the right.

I have two questions, purely for curiosity's sake:

  1. Could there be any learning/thinking benefit to playing every game in the same board orientation no matter which color you're playing?
  2. Is there a specific rule that says you can't sit on the side of the board in an OTB game?
